Efficiency savings

The Conservative solution to pressing economic problems is unspecified efficiency savings in public services. This is well established short hand for cuts. Nobody is fooled. It’s been done or promised before by both major parties and it’s a complete charade.

If you want to make public service cuts there’s plenty to go at without telling the public fibs that they don’t believe anyway.

In the NHS, of which I have thirty years experience, the first item on the agenda is the internal market that is currently absorbing about 10% of the funding. Abolish the market and you immediately create more than 3% per annum room for growth without additional funding for three years.

In education: try letting the teachers teach rather than cram the children for box ticking purposes and reduce the number of exams.

Simple things can yield big benefits.
